Under the Sea adventure will mesmerize patients at Riley Cancer Center Prom
INDIANAPOLIS (April 9, 2013) – Cancer patients at Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health have been invited to an “Under the Sea” adventure during the fourth annual Riley Cancer Center Prom to be held on May 3. Thanks to Women for Riley, a volunteer and giving circle dedicated to making life better for children treated at Riley Hospital, the patients’ fun-filled journey to discover the sunken treasure begins on April 11 and 12 at Promingdale’s, where they’ll pick their perfect ensemble. Riley Children’s Foundation and Riley Cancer Center also serve as partners in this special initiative for children.
Over 1,000 donated dresses, tuxedos, shoes, purses, jewelry and other accessories will line the shelves of the whimsical boutique known as Promingdale’s Presented by PwC. The event will be bustling: A personalized shopper will help 150 Riley Cancer Center patients and siblings choose their dream outfits for the special occasion. Patients will also vote for the Prom King and Queen, choosing among the Riley Cancer Center Staff.
Promingdale’s and Riley Cancer Center Prom were created for cancer patients within 12 months of treatment. The events have become highly anticipated for patients, siblings, parents and staff alike.
Approximately 100 Women for Riley members donate their time and money towards projects at Riley Hospital, with priorities focused on Riley Cancer Center Prom and funding grants supporting the hospital. Many local schools and businesses engage in clothing drives for the event; Fabric Care Center provides dry cleaning; Jim’s Formal Wear donates tuxedos; and Changing Footprints donates shoes. For Riley Prom, Nestle donates candy and chocolate and Levy Restaurants caters the meal.
Each year, 85 percent of children diagnosed with cancer in Indiana turn to Riley Hospital for their treatment. To make a donation to support Riley’s cancer center or pediatric cancer research, visit RileyKids.org.
