BSUDM Celebrates Record $610,086.23 for Riley Hospital for Children

Today more than 1,400 students who participated in the 9th annual Ball State University Dance Marathon (BSUDM) at the Ball State University Field Sports Building are celebrating a record $610,086.23 donation to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. The 12-hour event has now raised more than $1.8 million for Palliative Care Program and the Magic Castle Cart at Riley Hospital.

“Surpassing $610,086.23 for the benefit of kids at Riley Hospital for Children is an incredible accomplishment. For 9 years, BSUDM students have selflessly worked to create miracles for the kids at Riley. Ball State students have continued to embrace BSUDM and Riley’s mission, which is evident in their growth. We are extremely grateful to the students who work diligently year-round to achieve this success,” said Kate Burnett, senior communications officer, Riley Children’s Foundation.

During the marathon, dancers learned a line dance, competed in a basketball tournament and other games, listened to Riley families share their stories, and watched a Riley-kid talent show, among other activities.

Ball State University Dance Marathon (BSUDM) was originally founded as a philanthropic event in support of Riley Hospital in 2003 by Phi Mu and Sigma Alpha Epsilon. In 2008, both chapters decided that BSUDM would best thrive as a student organization. Since becoming a student organization, BSUDM has seen unprecedented growth in both student participation and fundraising efforts. In March 2013, BSUDM decided to increase support from the university by transitioning to fall under the guidance of the Office of Student Life.
