Walmart and Sam’s Club Raise $731,994 for Riley Hospital in six weeks

More than 140 Walmart and Sam’s Club locations across Indiana raised $731,994 for Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health, Indiana’s only nationally-ranked, comprehensive and Children’s Miracle Network-affiliated hospital.

“Riley Hospital is extremely grateful to Walmart and Sam’s Club for their generosity to support children,” said Jim Austin, assistant vice president of corporate partnerships at Riley Children’s Foundation. “Ongoing support from Walmart and Sam’s Club helps Riley fulfill our mission of improving the health and well-being of children.”

Walmart and Sam's Club associates, customers and members participated in a six-week campaign across the country to raise funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Through donations accepted at cash registers and in-store fundraising activities Walmart and Sam’s Club raised more than $40.2 million nationally for all 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. This annual fundraising campaign is the most recent by the retailers, as Walmart and Sam's Club have collected more than $740 million since partnering with the charity in 1987.

“Riley Hospital for Children serves Walmart customers, neighbors and family members,” said Walmart Regional General Manager David Reitnauer. “Walmart is committed to the communities we serve and to doing all we can to improve the lives of children.”

Riley Hospital for Children requires significant and broad-based financial support to sustain and expand groundbreaking, life-saving treatment and research, facilities and accessibility. Each year children from all 92 Indiana counties turn to Riley Hospital and its regional clinics throughout the state more than 300,000 times.

The retailer’s six-week campaign ran earlier this year. Walmart and Sam's Club 2014 fundraising efforts will continue throughout the year at participating locations through various in-store activities.
