Celebrating the Spirit of Children
The holidays are a difficult time to be in the hospital, especially when you are a kid. Luckily Riley Children’s Foundation has amazing donors, like Spirit Halloween, who bring all kinds of smiles and fun to our Riley kids.
Indiana Spirit Halloween locations have been raising funds for Riley Hospital since 2008 through their Spirit of Children program. To date, they have raised nearly $200,000 for Child Life at Riley and over $45 million in total across North America. These funds are critical as this particular department depends on donations for more than 75% of their funding.
“All of the funds we raise through our Spirit of Children campaign go to our partner hospitals for the kids, and it is all about them,” says Chris Garrett, an Indiana Spirit Halloween District Manager.
Not only does Spirit Halloween fundraise for Riley, their employees also throw an annual Halloween party at Riley Hospital. During this celebration they decorate the Riley Child Life Zone and provide FREE costumes for Riley kids and their families. All of these items are donated from their vendor partners and local stores.
“I think it is so sweet when anyone takes the time to entertain these children,” says Riley mom Elizabeth Culp.
Her adorable son, Eric, stole the show at this year’s party as well as the hearts of the Spirit Halloween employees. Riley Hospital has become a strong support system for Eric and his family through every step of his treatment.
“We are so blessed to have Riley in our own backyard,” says Elizabeth. “All the doctors and nurses have become our family.”
