IUDM Celebrates Record $3.88 Million for Riley
Today more than 3,000 students who participated in the 25th annual Indiana University Dance Marathon (IUDM) at the IU Tennis Center are celebrating a record $3,880,025.22 million donation to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. The October 30 – November 1 36-hour event has now raised more than $24 million for the Ryan White Center for Pediatric Infectious Disease and infectious disease research at Riley Hospital.
“Surpassing $3.88 million for the benefit of kids at Riley Hospital for Children is an incredible accomplishment. For 25 years, IUDM students have selflessly worked to create miracles for the kids at Riley. IUDM is one of the most respected student organizations in the country. We are extremely grateful to the students who work diligently year-round to achieve this success,” said Kate Burnett, senior communications officer, Riley Children’s Foundation.
During the marathon, dancers learned a line dance, competed in a basketball tournament and other games, listened to Riley families share their stories, and watched a Riley-kid talent show, among other activities.
In 1991, Indiana University became the first organization to host a dance marathon for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMN), launching a movement that has engaged more than 600,000 students at 300 universities and high schools across the nation. Riley Dance Marathons, with more than 80 participating high schools and universities throughout Indiana, is the fastest-growing fundraising program for Riley Hospital for Children and account for more than 25 percent of the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ dance marathons’ nationwide total.
