Playing for Kids: Extra Life 24-hour gaming marathon

Extra Life is celebrating National Game Day from November 4-5, and statewide gamers are raising money for Riley Hospital for Children, the only Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals facility in Indiana.

The concept is simple: Participants can play any kind of game from any location—video games, board games or kickball in the front yard—for 24 hours. Registration is free on the Extra Life website and participants can select Riley Hospital as the beneficiary. Gamers collect donations from friends and family supporting them as they do what they love: saving lives and making a difference.

Extra Life funds go directly to Riley Hospital for Children to fund the three priority areas of the hospital: research and patient care, maternity and newborn health and family support programs.

The Extra Life Indy Guild, which includes many grateful Riley family connections, has a goal of registering 1,000 players in hopes of raising $115,000.

Since 2008, players have raised more than $30 million for CMN Hospitals. Thanks to the efforts of the Extra Life Indianapolis Guild, in 2016 there were 1,171 registered gamers who collectively raised $109,406.53 for Riley Hospital.

Extra Life donations for Riley Hospital will be accepted through December 31, 2017.

About Extra Life
Extra Life is a grassroots experience that mobilizes passionate game lovers to help sick and injured kids treated at their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Extra Lifers raise money year-round, culminating in a massive international day of play each fall. During this all-games-in weekend, participants continue to fundraise, play games and ultimately celebrate one grand total together. Unlike traditional fundraising events, Extra Lifers typically participate from the comfort of their own home. From video games to board games and beyond, Extra Lifers have raised over $14 million dollars since the program was founded in 2008.
