WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (November 10, 2013) – Nearly 2,100 Purdue students who participated in the 10th Purdue University Dance Marathon (PUDM) are celebrating a record $1,000,471.03 donation to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. PUDM is one of the nation’s fastest growing Dance Marathon events, according to Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

The 18-hour Dance Marathon event, held November 9-10 at the France A. Córdova Recreational Sports Center, concluded at 12 p.m. today. The motto of PUDM is to “stand for those who can’t.” The funds benefit high priority projects for Riley Children’s Foundation:  60 percent for pediatric cancer research; 40 percent for areas-of-greatest-need at Indiana’s only nationally ranked and comprehensive children’s hospital. Riley Hospital requires significant donations to sustain and expand groundbreaking, life-saving treatment and research, facilities and accessibility.

PUDM honored former Purdue students John Romine of Columbus, Ind. and David Feltner of Noblesville, Ind. Romine passed away in December 2008 after battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Feltner passed away in June 2011 after battling a soft tissue cancer relapse.

During the marathon, approximately 2,100 students participated in a line dance, heard Riley teen acoustic duo “South Six Five,” listened to Riley families share their stories and watched a talent show featuring Riley patients, among numerous other activities.

Last year, PUDM raised $528,654.67. Through 10 events, PUDM has celebrated $2.4 million in support for Riley Hospital. Here is a summary of PUDM’s annual support:
