Caroline Pattillo, Bloomington, Ind.

Nobody knows when or how Riley Hospital will touch their lives.

For 10-year-old Caroline Pattillo, a healthy girl from Bloomington who loves playing sports and performing in show choir, life changed in an instant. She was thrown from a boat on Lake Monroe and landed on the rudder. She had severe internal injuries and needed to be airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, home to Indiana’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center.

Caroline underwent five hours of emergency surgery to repair damage in her abdominal cavity, and then had successful follow-up surgery later in the summer. Caroline’s courage and upbeat attitude have earned her the nickname “Super C.”  She wanted us to share this message with donors who support Riley: “Thanks to you, Riley is the life-changer of SO many kids (including me)! I have had an OUTSTANDING experience with Riley and I know many more will!!”

Caroline’s mother, Kerry Thomson, says Riley’s care was exemplary and delivered with love. “Riley allowed Caroline to make her own medical decisions, and cared for her the way she needed to be cared for,” says Kerry. “We are so deeply grateful!”

On behalf of Riley kids like Caroline, thank you for your continued support!
