Megan Ali Reason to Dance 2020

Reason to Dance, Reason for Hope is a ballroom dance competition that raises money for Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health. The evening beings with a silent auction, followed by a three-course dinner, and then the ballroom competition. Megan Ali is a Child Life Specialist at Riley hospital and is one of eight celebrities this year. We asked Megan a series of questions about her upcoming routine and why she decided to participate in Reason to Dance, Reason for Hope this year.

Other Child Life Specialists have participated before in Reason to Dance. What piece of advice have other Child Life Specialists given you about the event?

Both child life specialists who have participated in Reason to Dance have both said don’t take the dancing too seriously! Remember to spread the message about the important work child life specialists do. Remember all the patients who have touched your heart over the years for motivation.

How have you approached your fundraising efforts for the event?

I have sent letters to friends, family, neighbors, coworkers explaining my role as a child life specialist, the event, and why I am participating. I have a facebook event page and Instagram to promote the event and post updates on my dance lessons. I speak from the heart when I talk about my role as a child life specialist and hope that others are impacted by my dedication and commitment to Riley.

You danced when you were a child, is there a certain type of dance that you love the most?

I love ballet! To this day I love to attend ballets. My sister and I have an annual tradition of attending Butler’s Nutcracker every December.

Why do you think it is important to give back to the place you work at?

I believe and trust in Riley as an employee and as a mom. Giving back reflects my dedication and trust in the organization. My children have been well taken care of during their healthcare encounters at Riley and giving back is just one way to show my appreciation for all the hospital has to offer.
