Dancing Through Life: Meet Kaitlyn Ewing
For Kaitlyn Ewing, dance is a lifestyle. Not only does she work for Riley Children’s Foundation as a Dance Marathon Coordinator, she also recently made the 2019 Colts Cheerleading Team. We are so proud and wanted to give our readers the opportunity to learn more about the work she does for the kids at Riley Hospital.
Without further ado, meet Kaitlyn!
Q: Tell us about your job as a Dance Marathon Coordinator. What do you do? How does it support the kids at Riley Hospital for Children?
A: I work with Indiana University Dance Marathon and their partner high schools to raise funds for Riley Hospital. Throughout the year, I advise these students and provide best practices to help with recruitment, fundraising and more. Because dance marathons are student-led fundraisers, my main role is to really empower the students and be supportive of their efforts.
This fundraising program impacts the hospital in a massive way. Riley Dance Marathons have collectively raised over $50 million since 1991 and are continuing to grow throughout our state. It is clear these Indiana students are truly fighting for the next generation and I am so honored to help them continue to do more #FTK (for the kids).
Q: What do you love most about working for Riley Children’s Foundation?
A: What stands out most is the people. Being a part of a team working tirelessly to make miracles happen for the kids at Riley Hospital is beyond inspiring. Coming to work with these people pushes me to be the best version of myself and constantly reminds me what we are doing is much bigger than the daily tasks of our jobs.
Q: Congrats on making the 2019 Colts Cheerleading Team! What are you most looking forward to about this new opportunity?
A: Thank you so much! Since I was young I’ve always looked up to the Colts Cheerleaders. Being one now is surreal to say the least.
With this being my first year on the team, I am most excited about joining the sisterhood that is Colts Cheer. The team prides itself on being a supportive and empowering group of women that is truly a family. Being able to surround myself with people I can look up to is really important for me, so I am excited to have this opportunity.
Fun Fact! The Indianapolis Colts support Riley in many ways:
- They provided a matching gift of $150,000 at our Be the Hope NOW Luncheon this year
- Their support allows every baby born in an IU Health hospital to go home with a sleep sack to promote safe sleep
- They invite Riley kids to training camp every year and allow them to help with the coin toss at each home game
- The Colts Cheerleaders attend many Riley fundraisers and visit Riley Hospital throughout the year
