The Spirit Halloween staff visits the Child Life Zone at Riley Hospital

Anything that can give a child a moment to forget that they are in the hospital is pure magic. Luckily, for the patients at Riley Hospital for Children this week, magic is exactly what happened in the form of a Halloween party hosted by Spirit of Children.

The philanthropic arm of Spirit of Halloween stores, Spirit of Children is a program that brings fun and funding to Child Life programs at hospitals in local communities across the U.S. and Canada. Employees from the eleven Spirit Halloween stores in the Indianapolis area descended on Riley’s Child Life Zone with games, goodies, decorations and costumes galore. Patients, and their siblings, had their pick of Halloween costumes that were piled high.

The Child Life Zone was transformed into a spectacular Halloween experience complete with the blue Power Ranger and a pink kitty cat — to name just a few of the characters there — decorating Halloween masks, playing games together and more.

Spirit of Children was launched in 2006 had has raised more than $22 million. In addition to the Halloween parties they host at more than 130 children’s hospitals, they collect money from customers in their stores. Every dollar collected goes directly to the local children’s hospital.

The mission of this event is to make hospital stays less scary for kids and their families, and judging by the smiles across the board, it was mission accomplished!
