How Walmart Customers Give Hope to My Daughter
Having worked for Walmart for over 20 years, the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) campaign has always been important to me. But now it holds a special place in my heart because I know this campaign helped save my daughter's life.
When Reagan was 2 months old she was diagnosed with craniosynostosis—a condition where a seam in the skull closes prematurely. She underwent a three-hour surgery at Riley Hospital for Children in 2014. The surgery was a success and along the way, my wife Kata and I made lifelong friendships with the staff at the hospital. From Reagan’s pediatric neurosurgeon Dr. Laurie Ackerman, to her receptionist Dee, to Riley Children’s Foundation staff members such as Brad Moritz and Emily Adams, my family and I feel honored to be associated with these amazing people! Miracles happen at Riley. They take care of your child, and they put you at ease.
I am also fortunate to work with a great group of Walmart associates in Owensboro, Ky. All of the associates ask about my daughter and feel a connection to her. They have all heard her story, her struggles, and her impressive recovery, and welcome her with open arms (and a handful of marshmallows) when she comes to visit. Some have known Reagan since she was born, which only makes the connection stronger. It just blew me out of the water how much people throughout the company cared about my daughter. We are a big family, two million strong.
That's why I'm so thankful for all of the donations our customers give to help hospitals like Riley. It is so important for our associates to ask our customers to donate. It's because of all of these donations our Walmart customers give that children like my daughter Reagan have a chance for an amazing life!
Now through October 9 visit any Indiana Walmart and Sam's Club location, donate at the register and support our Riley kids.
