Nina Reason to Dance

Reason to Dance, Reason for Hope is a ballroom dance competition that raises money for Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health.  The evening begins with a silent auction, followed by a three-course dinner, and then the ballroom competition.  Nina Criscuolo is a local TV Reporter for WISH-TV and is one of eight celebrity dancers this year.  We asked Nina a series of questions about her upcoming routine and why she decided to participate in Reason to Dance, Reason for Hope this year.

You reached out after the 2019 event saying you wanted to participate in Reason to Dance.  What prompted you to want to do this event?

I reached out about Reason to Dance after seeing some pictures on Instagram from last year's event. I had never heard of it, but it looked like so much fun! Also, Riley has always been special to our family, since my son spent 5 days in February of 2016 following an appendectomy.

You have a bachelor's degree in dance!  Do you think that you will be the winner of this year's event?  What is your favorite music to dance too?

I do have a dance background, but not in ballroom dancing. I'm hoping my dance training helps a little, but my professional instructor Jonas is trying to beat the ballet out of me and get my hips moving. We'll see if he can do it! I'm finding Cha Cha and Samba do not align well with jazz and ballet, but I'm having a lot of fun learning something new!

What have you enjoyed most about being in Indianapolis?

I moved to Indianapolis from Louisiana, but I grew up in Michigan. Indy immediately felt like home to me. The Midwest charm, but big city fun, has made it a perfect fit for my family.

Why do you think it is important for donors to give to Riley Hospital for Children?

Unfortunately, bad things can happen to our children. Whether it's a broken bone from a fall or cancer, often those bad things are out of our control. Riley helps families regain that security and control by providing the best care possible along with emotional support along the way. You can feel the difference right when you step into the hospital and each and every staff member reinforces it. I know the hospital is there for the kids, but for a mom like me, it's the backup we need when the worst happens to the ones we love most.
