December 22, 2014
As 2014 draws near its close, we would like to share this message from one of our generous corporate partners, Indiana Blood Center. Lucy Smith, the Corporate Communications Specialist for Indiana Blood Center, explains why they are asking the public to join them in giving the gift of life:
"Indiana Blood Center is a longstanding supporter of Riley through the high school and collegiate dance marathons. Becoming the co-sponsor (with Fifth Third Bank) of the Gift of Hope Happens Here campaign was an extension of our deep belief in and support of Riley’s mission.
All Hoosier patients at Indiana hospitals are special to us. Indiana Blood Center provides critical blood components to patients at more than 60 hospitals around the state – helping patients get the treatment they need, whether they’re fighting cancer, undergoing heart surgery or any number of medical emergencies. But, the patients at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health are extra special to us. Riley patients have for many years been the recipients of our volunteer donors’ generosity. Partnering with Riley Children’s Foundation, such a well-respected organization, and one that directly supports Riley patients is another point of pride for our donors and for Indiana Blood Center. That’s why we are proud to partner with Riley Children’s Foundation this holiday season in support of The Gift of Hope Happens Here.
Our largest activity for this campaign was a blood drive at all eight of our donor centers on Saturday, December 6. All blood drive participants received a Riley gift bag (pictured, right) that contained a Riley ornament, a Riley pin and a Riley bracelet. The Riley bags were used as an incentive for Hoosiers to raise their sleeves at a time in December when donations tend to decrease as people are busy with holidays and family gatherings. We also installed a large banner on the exterior of our main building at 34th and Meridian on Monday, Dec. 15. We will also wrap one of our vehicles with the Riley Children’s Foundation logo. This bus travels thousands of miles throughout Indiana each year and will carry the Riley message for at least three years.
We ask members of the community to join us in this partnership to support the Riley mission and all its patients by raising your sleeve or making a financial contribution. By doing so, you are giving the gift of life so Riley patients can enjoy the holiday season just like any other boys or girls."
