Chloe Alexander, Sullivan, Ind.

Today it’s a pleasure to introduce you to 12-year-old Chloe Alexander from Sullivan, Ind., who is proudly serving as one of the 2016 Riley Champions presented by Kroger. Last summer Chloe completed treatment for Ewing Sarcoma, a form of cancer that caused a tumor to grow along her spine.

We asked Chloe some questions about her experiences as a patient at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, and how she hopes to inspire others.

Q: What is your age, your grade in school, and your favorite hobbies?
A: Age 12, grade 6, dancing and gymnastics.

Q: What kind of medical treatment have you received at Riley Hospital?
A: I had surgery for a tumor and chemo/radiation. It saved my life! Riley was excellent. I couldn't ask for better care.

Q: Tell us about Riley staff members who are special to you and how they helped you?
A: Dr. Zucker and Dr. Boaz, all the nurses, support staff and Child Life Specialists, and Sherri from the 9th floor.

Q: What are some ways you have been involved with giving back and helping others?
A: I have attended Riley Luncheon the last two years, and I want to start my own foundation.

Q: What was your reaction when you learned you were chosen to be a Riley Champion?
A: Ecstatic...I couldn't wait to help others and tell my Riley story.

Q: What advice do you have for other kids facing medical challenges?
A: Keep your head up and always be hopeful.

Q: What would you like to say to the staff at Riley Hospital?
A: "Thank you" for caring for me!

Q: What message do you have for people in the community who support Riley by donating?
A: "Thank you" and keep donating. Every dollar matters and could change a child's life!!!!!!!!
