Sometimes the simplest gifts have the largest impact.

In this case, the gift is a safe trip home from Riley Hospital.

Each year the Women for Riley organization, a philanthropic women’s group that partners with Riley Children’s Foundation to make a difference for children and families, provides generous grants to Riley Hospital programs in need of funding.

One program they’ve chosen to fund for several years in a row is the Child Passenger Safety Program. When Riley families cannot afford an appropriate car seat for their child, Riley’s certified child passenger safety technicians step in to help. That means Riley patients and their siblings never have to go home from the hospital without proper car seats due to financial need. The technicians teach the parents how to install the seats and use them properly before their child is discharged from the hospital.

The gifts that fund this program have immeasurable impact. In 2016, funding from Women for Riley made it possible for Riley to provide 200 car seats to children. This greatly reduces their risk of being injured or killed in a motor vehicle crash—the number one cause of death for children 14 and under.

“We would like to thank each of you for your ongoing support,” says the program’s coordinator Michelle Chappelow, RN, to Women for Riley members. “You are decreasing the risk of another child being severely injured or killed in a motor vehicle crash. Because of your generosity, we are able to continue providing car seats to families throughout Riley Hospital for Children.”

Riley Children’s Foundation also extends thanks to members of Women for Riley for their extraordinary commitment to kids and families. Thank you for standing behind Riley!
