What Does Riley Hospital for Children Mean to Me? It Means "Life"
Riley to me means: my life, my family, and the life of every child and family that has passed through their doors…
I was born a healthy 8 pound, 2 ounce baby. Within hours of my mom giving birth, the doctor asked her if there was any history of heart problems in our family. Those words kicked off my family’s journey with Riley Hospital.
I was diagnosed with two congenital heart defects. The next three years were filled with doctors, surgeries, and various procedures. The nurses and staff became like family. I remember Mom would get so emotional talking about our journey at Riley, and as a little girl, I never understood why. To me Riley was about getting to see the beautiful carousel horse in the lobby, buying ice cream sandwiches out of a machine, and playing house with the child-sized stove, sink, and refrigerator. I honestly only have good memories of Riley.
In fact, now even as an adult, I am still a Riley “kid”. I have been a part of several Riley research studies. I have volunteered in the Child Life area, going throughout the hospital with the Magic Castle cart to pass out toys to the young patients. I am so happy to work for a company that allows me to give back to Riley Hospital, not only through my volunteer efforts, but also with our products and services.
Today, I am so proud that my employer, Elements Financial, is a strong supporter of Riley Hospital. It feels so good to give back. Every time I use my Riley Children’s Foundation VISA Credit Card from Elements Financial, I think about that carousel horse in the lobby and how blessed I am for the life my doctors and nurses at Riley gave me.
