In June 2008, then 4-year-old Sophia Eager was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms’ disease. The day after her family found out, her journey began at Riley Hospital for Children. Over the next year, Sophia went through several weeks of radiation therapy, major surgery to remove tumors on both kidneys, and countless rounds of chemotherapy.
“We will forever be grateful for the work that everyone there did to ensure that our little girl would get better. Riley obviously holds a special place in our family’s heart,” said Jason Eager, Sophia’s dad.
The family still makes trips to Riley Hospital for Sophia’s checkups, and stays connected with the hospital through Riley Children’s Foundation. On September 18, 2014, Sophia shared her Riley Hospital journey at the Northeast Indiana Riley Luncheon.
